Grimes

I love everything about Grimes, the alias for 23 year old Claire Boucher.  One day she's just an artsy gothic hippie girl from Montreal, making ethereal electro-pop music in her bedroom with a keyboard, releases a few albums for free on the internet, and yadda yadda yadda she just got signed to 4AD and reveiws of her new album "Visions" are really good.

The past few days I can't get enough of the song "Oblivion."  I love the video too, especially because she looks so adorably weird, crashing the high school football game to make a music video.  :)

Here's another video for the song "Vanessa,"which she directed herself and stars her and her girlfriends. I heard she spent their small budget buying booze for them all.  (She sounds great singing this live, too.)

GRAD SCHOOL ENDS??!!1

I'm defending my thesis next week!  EEEeeeee!  How did this happen??

This is where I am right now, attempting to summarize my life work from the past five years.

Two monitors, my cat keeping me company, and lots of coffee.

LET'S FUCKING DO THIS.

Song of the Day

I'm digging Ben Folds song "You Don't Know Me At All" featuring Regina Spektor.  (What a great collaboration, I love both of them.)  The track is off his 2008 album Way to Normal.

The video is directed by Tim & Eric, if you're into that kind of thing.

Here's a live rehearsal audio-only of Ben & Regina, (possibly for a performance on Conan O'Brien).

Jenna Marbles on dating

Here's a funny video called "How to get ready for a date."

Saw this on Facebook and thought: "That was hilarious.  Who is this chick??"  As far as I can tell (via her webpage), Jenna just started making Youtube videos in her bedroom and got really popular.   She's from upstate NY and has a masters degree in Psychology and Counseling from Boston University, but now lives in LA (as a comedian? stripper?).

Zappa

Nothing to see here.  Just Frank Zappa, his cat, his parents and his awesome purple outfit in his awesome purple house, circa 1970, from Life Magazine's Rock Stars and Their Parents photo series.

"Tell Me You Love Me" from his album Chunga's Revenge, released the same year this photo was taken.
